Music Producer · Sound Designer · Audio Engineer
Owen Setlik is a composer, producer, sound designer, and artist who’s passionate about using music and sound to create meaningful and evocative experiences. Ever since he was young, he’s been captivated by film and music: film, for its expansive world building, its ability to convey emotion and different aspects of being human, and the magical experience it provides in bringing people together for storytelling; and music, for its unique capacity to awaken and resonate with one’s rawest emotions and elevate them to intense joy, strength, sadness, and all other emotions. As he’s grown his creative and technical expertise, his understanding of possibilities for utilizing sound along with other creative mediums has only expanded, especially in the realm of installations and sound art.
Through formal education at Bard College and collaborative student projects, Owen has built both a strong creative/stylistic sensibility and foundational technical skills. Taking inspiration from contemporary music and Hollywood film soundtracks, Owen strives to achieve impactful and versatile music that blends styles and cultures, and has composed original music for short films, video games, interactive installations, and personal films/pieces, incorporating influences and instruments from French, Slavic, and American folk music traditions. Though he is a classically trained percussionist, his experiences with drumset, violin, modular synthesis, DJ-ing, and fine art all inform his creative process as well.
He is experienced in using Logic Pro, Protools, Adobe Audition, and Melodyne to produce original pieces and beats/songs for songwriters, with skills in sampling, MIDI sequencing, sound sculpture, and mixing. He’s also built an understanding of microphone usage, signal routing, and live recording in studios at Bard College, Syracuse University, Clark University, and in Herndon, Virginia. He has assisted or run recording sessions for a small wind/string ensemble, violin and string bass, piano, drumset, guitar, and voice. Finally, he’s cultivated an ear for sonic realism by designing sound effects and ambience for film and video games alongside other post-production processes like audio and dialogue editing/mixing and dialogue re-recording in Logic, Protools, and Adobe Premiere.
Owen is currently in the process of earning his B.A. in Electronic music at Bard College (Graduating May, 2026). He was also accepted into a 2-week Composition Intensive at Berklee College of Music in the summer of 2021. In Fall of 2024, he spent a semester continuing his studies of music and art in Berlin and completed an internship working for composer and artist Henning Lohner. He was recently accepted into the Audio Production Master’s program at the University of Westminster in London and plans to further develop his creative and technical skills there.
